Membership CategoriesEditorial and creative leaders employed by qualified publications are invited to join ASME. Qualified publications include consumer and B2B magazines and editorial websites edited or published in the United States. Editorial and visual consultants, freelance writers and editors, journalism educators and retired or currently unemployed editorial leaders are also invited to join ASME. The editors of marketing and promotional magazines and websites and journalists working outside the United States are eligible to join ASME, subject to the approval of the ASME Board of Directors. Media organizations that wish to engage with other members of ASME and sponsor ASME programs are also eligible for membership, subject to limitations. MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES The five categories of ASME membership are Chief Editor Member, Senior Editor Member, Associate Member, ASME NEXT Member and Corporate Member. Associate Members include former members who are now retired or currently unemployed. Associate, ASME NEXT and Corporate members are nonvoting members of ASME. Applications for membership in any category of membership are subject to the approval of the ASME Board of Directors. CHIEF EDITOR Members are editors in chief of magazines and editorial websites or editorial directors of publishing companies or divisions. Chief Editor Members are eligible for election to the ASME Board of Directors. Members who are enrolled and remit dues as Chief Editors are eligible for discounted entry fees for the National Magazine Awards and the ASME Awards for Design, Photography and Illustration. For many Chief Editor Members, the cost of membership is completely offset by the use of this benefit. Chief Editor Members are also entitled to purchase discounted individual and group tickets for the annual ASME Editorial Conference and the presentation of the National Magazine Awards, ASME Awards for Design, Photography and Illustration and ASME NEXT Awards. Annual dues for Chief Editor Members are $895. Join today. SENIOR EDITOR Members are senior- and executive-level editors, art directors and photo editors. Members who are enrolled and remit dues as Senior Editor Members are entitled to all the privileges of ASME membership except that they are not eligible for election to the ASME Board of Directors unless otherwise determined by the ASME Nominating Committee. Senior Editor Members are eligible for discounted entry fees for the ASME Awards for Design, Photography and Illustration but not the National Magazine Awards. Editors in chief of magazines and editorial websites and editorial and visual consultants may also join ASME as Senior Editor Members. The editorial and creative leaders of marketing and promotional magazines and websites may join ASME as Senior Editor Members if approved by the ASME Board of Directors. Senior Editor Members receive priority invitations and assignments as judges of the National Magazine Awards, ASME Awards for Design, Photography and Illustration and ASME NEXT Awards. Senior Editor Members are also entitled to purchase discounted individual and group tickets for the annual ASME Editorial Conference and the presentation of the National Magazine Awards, ASME Awards for Design, Photography and Illustration and ASME NEXT Awards. Annual dues for Senior Editor Members are $395. Join today. ASSOCIATE Members are retired or currently unemployed editorial leaders who wish to continue their support of ASME programs. Journalism educators and freelance writers and editors are also eligible to join ASME as Associate Members. Judges of the National Magazine Awards, ASME Awards for Design, Photography and Illustration and ASME NEXT Awards are entitled to join ASME as honorary Associate Members for a period of one year after their initial service as judges. Members who are enrolled as Associate Members before the publication of the call for entries of the ASME Awards for Design, Photography and Illustration in September of the current year are eligible for discounted entry fees for the ASME Awards for Design, Photography and Illustration but not the National Magazine Awards. Associate Members are also entitled to purchase a limited number of discounted tickets for the ASME Editorial Conference and the presentation of the National Magazine Awards, ASME Awards for Design, Photography and Illustration and ASME NEXT Awards. The number of discounted tickets Associate Member may purchase is determined annually by the ASME Board of Directors. Annual dues for Associate Members who are now retired are $45. Annual dues for all other Associate Members except honorary members are $95. Join today. ASME NEXT Members are early-career journalists who are members of ASME by virtue of their membership in ASME NEXT. Members of ASME NEXT are full-time and freelance employees of magazines and websites affiliated with ASME. Members of ASME NEXT include writers, photographers, illustrators, editors, social media journalists, graphic designers and photo editors. ASME NEXT sponsors educational training programs for early-career journalists, including monthly editorial workshops. Members of ASME NEXT enjoy exclusive opportunities to be matched with senior-journalist mentors. Visit ASME NEXT for more information. Annual dues for members of ASME NEXT are $95 per year or $9 per month. Join today. CORPORATE Members are media organizations that wish to engage with other members of ASME and sponsor ASME programs. Corporate Members are eligible for discounted entry fees for the National Magazine Awards and the ASME Awards for Design, Photography and Illustration, subject to limitations. Corporate Members are also entitled to purchase a limited number of discounted tickets for the annual ASME Editorial Conference and the presentation of the National Magazine Awards, the ASME Awards for Design, Photography and Illustration and the ASME NEXT Awards as determined by the ASME Board of Directors.
