American Society of Magazine Editors Adds Five New Members to Board

NEW YORK, NY (June 7, 2011)—Larry Hackett, Managing Editor of People, was re-elected president of the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) at the annual meeting of the organization today.

Also re-elected were Peggy Northrop, VP and Global Editor-in-Chief of Reader's Digest, as vice-president of ASME; Lucy Danziger, Editor-in-Chief of SELF, as secretary; and Rosemary Ellis, Editor-in-Chief of Good Housekeeping, as treasurer. ASME officers serve one-year terms and are eligible for reelection to a second term.

Five new members were chosen for two-year terms on the ASME board: Amy DuBois Barnett, Editor-in-Chief of Ebony; Dana Cowin, Editor-in-Chief of Food & Wine; Sally Lee, SVP/NY Editorial Director, Meredith Corporation, and Editor-in-Chief of Ladies’ Home Journal; Gael Towey, Chief Editorial and Creative Director, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, Inc.and Josh Tyrangiel, Editor ofBloomberg Businessweek.

The American Society of Magazine Editors is the principal organization for magazine journalists in the United States. The 700 members of ASME include the editorial leaders of most major consumer and business magazines published in print and online. Founded in 1963, ASME works to defend the First Amendment, protect editorial independence and support the development of journalism. ASME sponsors the National Magazine Awards in association with the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
