Francesca Trianni, Journalist and Filmmaker, TIME

Francesca Trianni is an award-winning journalist and filmmaker at TIME. Francesca’s first feature-length documentary, Paradise Without People (Best Documentary: Taormina Film Festival, American Documentary Film Festival), follows two pregnant Syrian refugees who find themselves navigating motherhood while held in refugee camps. A feature debut from TIME Studios, the documentary offers a distinct, complex perspective on the worldwide refugee crisis. Francesca’s work has screened at festivals internationally, including DOC NYC, Big Sky and the Stockholm film festival. In 2018, Francesca filmed and produced Finding Home, a multimedia project that won more than a dozen awards, including World Press Photo for Innovative Storytelling, a National Murrow Award and Pictures of the Year International. She received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding New Approaches in Documentary. Francesca loves to teach. She has been a guest speaker in journalism classes across the country, including the Columbia Journalism School, the International Center of Photography, and the Montana Journalism School, and a mentor for the Video Consortium’s 2021 Sony Mentorship Program and for the Mountain Workshops. A native Italian speaker, Francesca graduated with honors from the Columbia Journalism School in New York.
