ASME BEST COVER CONTEST FINALISTS ANNOUNCED

Top 50 covers posted at texture.com/vote for Readers’ Choice voting

New York, NY (January 5, 2016)—The American Society of Magazine Editors today announced the finalists in the 10th-anniversary ASME Best Cover Contest. Chosen by top editors, art directors and photo editors, the top 50 covers are now posted online. From today until January 26, media consumers can vote for their favorite finalists at texture.com/vote.

The winners of the ASME Best Cover Contest will be announced at the American Magazine Media Conference on Tuesday, February 2, 2016. The premier event for industry leaders, AMMC is presented by MPA—The Association of Magazine Media with ASME. The National Magazine Awards, also sponsored by ASME, will be announced the night before, at the Ellie Awards Annual Dinner.

Thirty-eight magazines are finalists in at least one of the 10 Best Cover Contest categories this year. New York and The New Yorker both have four covers in the top 50. AFAR, Bloomberg Businessweek, ESPN The Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, The New York Times Magazine and Wired each have two finalists.

Covers of the following magazines are also finalists: Audubon, Bon Appétit, The California Sunday Magazine, The Chronicle Review, Conde Nast Traveler, Esquire, Garden & Gun, Glamour, GQ, The Hollywood Reporter, Los Angeles, Men’s Fitness, Men’s Health, Nautilus, Newsweek, Oklahoma Today, Parents, PC Magazine, People, Real Simple, Redbook, Rolling Stone, Saveur, Southern Living, Sports Illustrated, Surface, TIME, Vanity Fair, W and WSJ.

Among the finalists are some of the most talked-about covers of 2015, including Vanity Fair’s Caitlyn Jenner, New York’s “Cosby: The Women”  and GQ’s Amy Schumer as Princess Leia. Other notable finalists include ESPN The Magazine’s Body issue; Glamour’s 25th-anniversary Women of the Year issue with Reese Witherspoon on the cover; and Sport Illustrated’s “Sportsperson of the Year: Serena Williams” issue. Williams is the only person to appear on two of the top 50 covers: She also appears on the cover of the August 10-23 New York, nominated in the Best Fashion and Beauty Covers category.

“Whether you’re a reader of Garden & Gun or PC Magazine, Redbook or Men’s Health, TIME or Oklahoma Today, what these covers show is, there’s nothing like a magazine to keep you informed and entertained,”  said Sid Holt, chief executive of ASME. “We’re especially delighted to be working this year with Texture to promote the value—and fun—of magazines to media consumers.”

“What Spotify did for music, and Netflix did for video, Texture does for magazines,” said Maggie Murphy, Editorial Director at Texture. “No remembering to pick up the issue at newsstands on Friday. No need for your writer to put a shorter, more SEO-friendly version on your website—minus the exquisite design.

“Texture is honored to be a partner in presenting the best covers of 2015 on our game-changing platform,” Murphy added. “Congratulations to all the nominees.”

Covers entered in the ASME Best Cover Contest compete for two sets of awards: the Best Covers Awards and the Readers’ Choice Awards. ASME members vote for the Best Cover Awards, including the ASME Cover of the Year. Media consumers  choose the winners of the Readers’ Choice Awards, including the ASME Most Liked Cover, by voting at texture.com/vote.
