Peggy Fisher and Larry Stelter Chair of Magazine and Brand Media, Drake School of Journalism and Mass CommunicationJanuary 11, 2022 The Drake School of Journalism and Mass Communication seeks a dynamic teacher and scholar for its prestigious Peggy Fisher and Larry Stelter Chair of Magazine and Brand Media. The position also directs the E.T. Meredith Center for Magazine, Brand Media and Multimedia Education. This is a tenure-track or consecutive-term nine-month appointment, beginning in fall 2022. The successful candidate will have a proven ability to lead an innovative program with a history of national award-winning print and digital student publications. Master’s degree or Ph.D. preferred for a tenure-track appointment, but applicant with bachelor’s degree and significant, distinguished professional experience will be considered for a consecutive-term appointment. Professional journalism experience required and successful teaching experience preferred. Must have a solid and current record of scholarly or professional activity. The rank is associate professor or professor, dependent on the professional and academic qualifications of the candidate. Salary is competitive with peer institutions. The qualified applicant will have an interest in multimedia communication and strategies for audience engagement. Courses may include magazine and brand media writing, editing, design and production. May also teach classes in the SJMC Master of Communication program and in the undergraduate core curriculum. Class load is three courses per semester, with a course release for administrative work. Job also includes academic and career advising for undergraduate students; advising of student magazines; community outreach; and scholarly activity, public speaking and organization of events on issues related to the magazine and brand media industries.
