Overview
Tonal is looking for a savvy Managing Editor to oversee and execute high-quality content across multiple platforms, helping Tonal become a source of cutting-edge fitness and health knowledge in the wellness space. Charged with managing our editorial calendar and focusing on SEO strategy, the Managing Editor will work on written, visual, and audio content that educates members and prospects while elevating the Tonal brand and our science-driven approach to strength and conditioning.
What You Will Do
- Assign, edit, and publish content in the health, fitness, and sports science space that educates existing members, raises awareness of Tonal's world-class technology, and meets performance metrics
- Comb and optimize copy for accuracy, tone, style, SEO, and more
- Oversee day-to-day execution of the content strategy, from pitches and assignments, to updating for search, to editing and publishing
- Help ideate and maintain an overall digital content calendar for short-lead stories and long-term content packages and projects
- Work closely with in-house and external writers, contributors, and experts to create thought-provoking, shareable, timely, helpful, and/or rigorously reported stories
- Craft attention-grabbing headlines to reach our current members while also thinking of reaching new users
- Collaborate with our analytics team and use data to inform ideation while flexing creativity on packaging and optimizing for search
- Align with colleagues on the Marketing and Strength Institute Teams to leverage our partners and members in the sports and research communities
Who You Are
- A minimum of 7 years working in a fast-paced digital media or editorial environment touching science, technology, fitness, health, and search-based content
- A skilled and experienced top editor with a solid understanding of SEO best practices
- A smart content packager who is results-driven and detail-orientated when it comes to creating content that is informative, engaging, educational, and/or entertaining
- A confident team player with experience working closely with writers and assigning to/editing internal and external contributors
- Demonstrated experience publishing digital content within a CMS and working with various analytics tools and digital program
- Ability to contribute to the overall content flow, crushing the necessary daily tasks while eagerly conceptualizing and organizing larger projects
- A keen sense of what’s new and trending in the health/fitness and sports space and an ability to find brand-specific angles on relevant topics
- An understanding of scientific and technical principles; communicating complex phenomena in a conversational way is a must
- The ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, stay organized, and work simultaneously on multiple projects with a positive, go-getter attitude
- A zeal for evangelizing our mission to improve lives through our technology and content both internally and externally
- A Bachelor's degree is required (additional certifications or credentials are a bonus)
