Managing Editor at The American Prospect

November 17, 2021
Washington, DC

The American Prospect holds power to account in Washington and beyond. We are an award winning public policy magazine in print six times a year and online daily, with a staff that is small but mighty.

We pride ourselves on crafting our own beats, initiating innovation, and otherwise owning the positions in which we work. Skills we value are leadership, time management, project management, and the ability to respectfully collaborate with the team both in person and online.

We are in search of a Managing Editor. The Prospect ME oversees and coordinates content, maintaining an editorial calendar and daily schedule, creating and enforcing deadlines, supervising fact checking, managing freelance writers, editing copy, and assigning publishing tasks to colleagues and interns, both in person at our D.C. HQ and with our remote team, via Zoom, Slack and Gmail.

The ME participates in content strategy, story planning, story assignments, and the presentation of content online and in print, as well as ensuring such content is factual, free from errors, and conforms to the Prospect’s adopted formats and style. Experience with assigning freelance work, as well as with story editing, is strongly preferred.

This full time, WBNG (CWA) union position is based in Washington, D.C. Salary starts at $65,000. The collective bargaining agreement secures an annual raise.

The American Prospect prioritizes attracting diverse talent and cultivating an inclusive environment that encourages collaboration and creativity. All qualified applicants will be considered, regardless of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, gender identity or expression, national origin, genetics, age, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other such characteristic.
