Managing Editor at the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association

Summary:

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association is looking for a managing editor to run the production process of the award-winning AOPA Pilot and Flight Training magazines and digital content. Our magazines and associated media inspire, inform, and support the largest community of general aviation pilots in the world with stories about everything from vintage Piper Cubs to jets, helicopters, and drones—and the managing editor is at the center of it all. Responsibilities include timely delivery of all print publications and associated digital content; editing for style, accuracy, and space; working closely with the art and production staff on visual presentation and production; setting deadlines; and communicating editorial guidelines. 

Responsibilities:

  • Manages content calendars, establishes and enforces deadlines to ensure content across all AOPA media channels.
  • Revises articles, writes headlines and captions, cuts/edits articles to fit, reviews layouts and page proofs.
  • Manages the flow of content from submissions through distribution utilizing an entirely digital production process.
  • Oversees editorial contracts and contributor payments.
  • Contributes content as necessary across AOPA media channels. 

Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Major in English or journalism preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of multi-channel media experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively on a team.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign; ability to adapt to new technologies.
