Executive Editor at Dartmouth Alumni Magazine

Dartmouth Alumni Magazine seeks a creative Executive Editor to join the management team of our editorially independent, award-winning magazine.  As our number two editor, you will play a vital role in assigning and editing stories for the magazine, a bi-monthly with a circulation of 60,000.  You will oversee research and copy edit, run the editorial production process, hire and mentor student interns, and contribute to the magazine’s digital efforts.  If you are strategically minded, energetic, and an intellectually curious and imaginative editor who can identify and create content that rises above the fray, we’re looking for you. 

What you’ll need to bring to us in your new role: Bachelor’s degree in journalism or the equivalent, with at least seven years of experience in magazine journalism, print and digital story assignment, and line editing.  Experience managing and nurturing freelance writers, editorial staff and student interns as well as experience running editorial operations for print and digital publications.  A positive and collaborative work style and spirit that is second nature.  A keen eye for prose with the ability to develop an astute understanding of the magazine’s tone and sensibility.  Top notch skill and experience in reporting, writing, and editing for magazines, and a track record of developing a network of strong and reliable contributors.  We seek a team member who has experienced success in our industry and who can bring originality and creativity in conceiving story ideas, and the ability to maintain high standards and deliver content that is both engaging, entertaining, informative and editorially compelling.  Lastly, a sense of humor is not negotiable!
