About The Role

Fast Company is seeking a hard-working, whip-smart assistant editor to help with day-to-day operations of the Work Life section, Fast Company’s popular digital vertical for productivity tips and hacks, inspiring stories of success and failures, career advice, and powerful stories about workplace culture, diversity and inclusion, and the future of work.

What You’ll Be Doing

Writing weekly features or roundups for the Work Life section

Editing multiple posts daily by contributors

Reviewing and building daily syndicated stories, as well as maintaining syndicated partnerships and pursuing new syndicated opportunities

Overseeing articles/pitches in the general contributor inbox

Reviewing books for excerpting

Reviewing submissions for relevant recognition programs, including Best Workplace for Innovators, and writing and editing digital packages

Meeting with relevant workplace leaders to understand trends in diversity and inclusion, productivity, mental health, and work-life balance

Duties may also include co-hosting Fast Company’s Work Life podcast, Secrets of the Most Productive People

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is a talented writer and editor with several years of experience in digital media, a history of working with freelancers and outside contributors, a robust network of contacts, and endless ideas for how to tell new stories about the intersection of technology and culture in the workplace. The Work Life assistant editor should have a keen understanding of what makes a good story, ready insight into how to headline a story to bring it to the broadest possible audience, and an intuitive sense of Fast Company’s brand, perspective, and values.
