Assistant Editor, Live Programming at Fast Company

Fast Company is seeking a full-time assistant editor to program the publication’s large and growing roster of webinars, live events, summits, and the annual Fast Company Innovation Festival. 

The ideal candidate has about two years of experience at a journalistic organization, has worked on events or booked speakers (or has a strong interest in editorial events), and is someone who shares our enthusiasm for Fast Company’s focus on innovation, creativity, design, and technology in business. This assistant editor will report directly to the editor-in-chief and will work closely with senior editors to shape and program all Fast Company live and digital programs. This assistant editor must possess strong editorial instincts and top-notch organizational skills.

This position is temporarily remote due to COVID but will require in-office presence once our NYC office reopens.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Assisting with the recruitment and management of talent and speakers for international events
  • Working closely with the editorial team to develop agendas and content that will engage our audiences and attract new attendees
  • Working closely with the events team to align on all logistics elements of an editorial event
  • Assisting with drafting and editing event and marketing language for events
  • Assisting with freelancers as needed to cast and manage talent and content for events
  • Researching and creating speaker recommendation lists with up-to-date contact information
  • Assisting with prep documents, organizing calls with speakers and interviewers, and developing speaker communication documents and contracts
  • Managing on-stage talent for events
  • Tracking recruiting progress with internal stakeholders
  • Writing and editing event programming agendas
  • Collaborating with video teams for pre-recorded or streamed panels and interviews
  • Assisting with uploading and updating online event platforms
  • Assisting with preparing, distributing and managing speaker contracts 

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong writing and reporting skills
  • Event experience preferred
  • Superior organizational skills and the ability to manage the many different internal stakeholders
  • A willingness to pick up the phone to recruit and manage talent
  • Willingness to advocate on behalf of Fast Company edit at meetings with other internal stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to travel as needed for events
  • Understanding that longer hours are needed in the weeks prior to an event and during an event
